The Naja symbol - the center part of a squash blossom design - is said to have originated in the Middle East, where the Moors brought horse shoe shaped jewelry with them as a ward against the evil eye into Spain. From here, the Spanish conquistadors brought the symbol to the Navajo, who adopted it.

I have always loved the design of the squash blossom necklaces and wanted to create a version of my own. This bolo tie began as me just learning the process of creating a naja and building off of the horseshoe or crescent shape. The added stones are Wild Horse Magnesite which is mined in Arizona so I felt it was a fitting stone to accompany this southwestern design. It is finished off with a dark brown leather woven cord and bolo tips.

Naja // 3 3/8" long x 2" wide

Bolo // 38" long (19" length cord when ends meet evenly) x 5mm diameter leather cord
