General jewelry care
Your Carry A Torch pieces are created with longevity in mind. My hope is that your piece will last through being passed down many generations. This is absolutely possible if cared for correctly. Here are a few general care tips for keeping your jewelry looking like new for years to come.
+ Always protect your jewelry from scratches, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.
+ Store your jewelry in a clean, dry, preferably air tight space to help slow oxidation.
+ Be sure to remove jewelry before swimming in chlorine or ocean water.
+ Avoid spraying perfume on jewelry. Spray and let dry fully before putting on your jewelry.
+ Remove your jewelry before bed to avoid snags and damage.
+ Take care when using lotion, cream, or sanitizer as they may cause damage to your jewelry.
+ See below for specific SILVER + STONE care and cleaning instructions.
silver + stone
Sterling Silver Care:
Sterling Silver naturally oxidizes over time. It is unavoidable, but there are ways to slow down the process.
Use a clean 100% cotton cloth or a special sterling silver cleaning cloth (like a Sunshine Polishing Cloth) or buff with a Pro Polish Pad to restore shine. Gently rub off any excess residue. Aim to keep the shinny parts shiny while avoiding the purposeful patina that gives your piece its character.
Note: Don’t use silver dips on your silver jewelry. It will leave microscopic pits causing it to darken faster. Instead, focus on preventative care by storing your jewelry in a closed box or plastic baggy as silver will tarnish when exposed to air.
Gemstones and Turquoise:
Keep stones away from chemicals, household cleaners, oils and perfumes. Clean using warm, sudsy water and dry them immediately with a soft cloth. Never immerse them. Avoid using commercial cleansers, steam or ultrasonic cleaners.
